Say hello to our new developer, Rich

In August we welcomed our newest developer, Rich, into the 6-2 design team. This week we asked him some dig-deep questions and found out how his first month at 6-2 design has gone.

What have been the biggest influencers in your life?

In short, the internet. Having a virtually infinite wealth of knowledge at my finger tips and insight into all the amazing, creative things people do fuels my burning creative and technical drive. That being said, the great outdoors is also a major influence, there’s nothing like a trip to the mountains to instill a sense of wonder and awe and inspire me to climb my own metaphorical mountains daily.

What kind of things do you care about? What gets you out of bed each day?

An innate drive to innovate and learn and the vast tapestry of amazing technological and creative things to be explored is a big part of what gets me up in the morning. There’s too many exciting experiences to be had and challenges to face to spend any longer in bed than I have to. Coffee helps too.

What’s it like working at 6-2 design? What’s the best and worst thing about working here?

Frankly it’s hard to pick a best thing, there’s so many great aspects to choose from! Nothing beats getting to be around and collaborate with like-minded people who all share a deep passion for what we each do individually and as a team. A quote by Frank Tyger sums it up perfectly: “Doing what you like is freedom. Liking what you do it happiness”. Getting to think daily “I can’t believe I get paid to do this” is a great feeling.

The worst thing… and I thought it was hard to pick a best thing. At the risk of sounding cliché, I’d have to say the worst thing is that there’s not enough hours in the day, there’s just too many exciting avenues to explore and unfortunately, as much as I’d like to, we can’t get stuck into them all in one day. There’s always tomorrow I suppose.

What’s the most exciting or challenging thing you’ve worked on since you joined 6-2?

For me some of the most exciting thing to work on is developing tools and workflows that help us build websites increasingly effectively and efficiently. Although we’re always looking for ways to do things better and always looking for new ways to innovate and push ourselves which makes every project we do more challenging and exciting.

What skills and experience do you bring to the team?

I have a wide variety of interests spanning various creative and technical fields spanning science, music/audio and design, amongst others and have worked in a number of different industries / fields from the service industry to AV technician and sound engineer work. Drawing upon this broad spectrum of interests and past experiences provides me with a unique perspective to general solving problems and coding.
